Santa Barbara Tracker Certification 11/7/2021
On November 6 & 7, I conducted a Track and Sign Certification in Santa Barbara County for the Wilderness Youth Project.
We spent the first day at the North Campus Open Space and at a bridge in the town. Day 2 was spent at the White Rock Day Use area. All told, we saw the tracks of 28 species, including 17 mammals, 7 birds, 2 herps, and 2 invertebrates. We saw tracks and sign of red fox, coyote, snakes, bobcat, and a really cool mountain lion scrape. See the photos below.
A big thanks to Dan Fontaine and Wilderness Youth Project for organizing this certification. I also want to thank Amanda Meller and Jenny Fitzgerald for assisting. This is a really fun group of environmental educators and I enjoy their enthusiasm for learning and spending time outdoors.
