West Texas Tracker Certification 11/12/2011
The Sul Ross University Conservation Biology Club just hosted a track and sign evaluation in west Texas on Nov 12 & 13, 2011.
We saw the tracks of 31 species, including 19 mammals, 7 birds, 3 herps, and 2 invertebrates. Some of the highlights were: incredible bear feeding sign, bear bites on trees, and tracks of a mountain lion dragging its prey! Congratulations to Sarah Kahlich and Laura Loeser for achieving Track and Sign Level II.
Thanks to Tim Rowe for helping out.

Bears often climb oaks in search of acorns. As they bend branches in order to reach the acorns, the branches often form a platform. While bears do not sleep on these platforms, they are sometimes called bear nests.Tracking in West Texas
