Santa Barbara Tracker Certification 11/10/2019

Published on November 19, 2019 under Certifications

On November 16 & 17, I conducted a Track and Sign Certification in Santa Barbara County for the Wilderness Youth Project.

We saw the tracks of 32 species, including 17 mammals, 11 birds, 2 herps, and 2 invertebrates. We spent the first day at the White Rock Day Use area. We saw tracks and sign of mountain lions, badgers, turkeys, and much more. Day 2 was spent at an amazing restoration site known as the North Campus Open Space. Among many incredible tracks, we found tracks of burrowing owl, barn owl, red fox, American pipit, and crow. See the photos below.

A big thanks to Dan Fontaine and Wilderness Youth Project for organizing this certification. I also want to thank Barbara Gilkes, Amanda Meller, and Jerry Maserjian for assisting. This is a really fun group of people and I enjoy seeing them improve each year.

    Hey Jonna,

Thanks again for the coming out and sharing so much with us. Just thought I’d mention, there’s a picture with the caption (Quail tracks) and I think those were actually what we called Killdeer.

    Happy Trails,

    Julian
