Santa Barbara Tracker Certification 11/13/2022
On November 12 & 13, I conducted a Track and Sign Certification in Santa Barbara County for the Wilderness Youth Project.
We spent the first day at the North Campus Open Space and Day 2 at a bridge in town. All told, we saw the tracks of 25 species, including 15 mammals, 6 birds, 1 herp, 2 invertebrates, and some really cool the marks in the mud from a recent hail storm. We saw tracks and sign of a spotted skunk, striped skunk, opossum, red fox, coyote, bobcat, raccoon, and many more. See the photos below.
A big thanks to Dan Fontaine and Kyle Byrd-Fisher with Wilderness Youth Project for organizing this certification. I also want to thank Amanda Meller assisting. This is a really fun group of environmental educators and I enjoy their enthusiasm for learning and spending time outdoors.
